Summer Lunch Program: Finding Community, Nourishment, and Hope

For a local mom raising her child in New Holland—CrossNet has been more than just a resource. It’s been a lifeline, a source of encouragement, and a place where they’ve found true community.

Sarah first heard about CrossNet through word-of-mouth while living in New Holland. At the time, she was looking for ways to support her family. As a single mom on a tight budget, every bit of help mattered. She started coming to CrossNet’s monthly Food Pantry about a year and a half ago—and that simple step began a deeper connection.

Through Amy, CrossNet’s Food and Nutrition Manager, Sarah learned about the Summer Lunch Program. “Amy has been amazing,” she shared. “She’s so kind and always points me in the right direction—even just through a quick text.”

The Summer Lunch Program made a big difference. It helped ease the burden of putting food on the table during the summer months—for both Sarah and her son. But beyond the practical support, something else started to shift.

Sarah also shared that her past experiences with faith and church had left her hesitant. But the kindness and care she’s experienced through CrossNet has made an impact. “I’ve had hard experiences with faith and church growing up. But seeing how this community truly shows up for people—it’s opened my eyes. Everyone needs help sometimes. It’s amazing to see what happens when a community chooses to love and support one another.”
